Behind the Scenes at Work

DSP Blog Prompt: Expose a funny or interesting "behind the scenes" story from your job or home. What really happens when no one else is around that we wouldn't expect?

Many years ago, at the teen home where I worked, there was a staff who could mimic the kids so well, you would be on the floor laughing… for real. It wasn’t hateful, although some may see it that way. It was just that he know which of your buttons the kids were pushing and he could make you see the humor in it. Comic relief at its best.

Girl Scout Cookie Sale - Done!

This year's cookie sale was very successful, in more ways then one. First, we did our basic sell to anyone and everyone. It came in, did a second order and that is being delivered. Then we had a booth sale at John's Market today. The girls did very well! Gigi and Amanda stood outside with signs and people actually read them and came in to get the cookies. We sold out of a few of the types and only have 15 boxes left all around. I believe two of those are gone now too. Briana did very well too, as she didn't want to get up and do this sale... being 16 and not in the mood to be anywhere on a Saturday morning but in bed. I was surprised to see her smile before 10am, but she did - and I loved it!

My new troop is doing better than I thought it would and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Parents are really coming through for the girls and helping out. I wish I had an actual co-leader but I prefer this to forcing someone to 'help out' and then not getting any help or just getting a lot of complaining. I really enjoy watching the girls and providing experiences for them. The ones that came today learned a lot and, as always, so did I.

Dreamin' about Dream Homes

DSP Blog Prompt: What's the one thing your dream home must have?

As stated in previous posts on this blog, we are looking to build this spring/summer. I am really looking forward to it. The one thing that this dream home must have is an office. I’ve been writing for over 11 years now, professionally, I want an office.

At first it was great to write out in the open. My kids were little and my puter was in a central location so that I could monitor my girls if need be – which was always. Now that they are a bit grown, I’ve gotten a few uninterrupted hours where a complete idea comes to fruitarian and becomes an article before I have to look up from my desk. It’s amazing! So, I’ve put my foot down… the house has an office or the dog house becomes his new home.

Now, if I’m just dreaming, a solid wall fish tank about 6-foot high would be really cool ;-)

How many of you are there?

There are five of me ;-)

DSP Blog Prompt: What would your motto would be for the place you're at in your life right now? Is it different than it would have been five years ago? 10? 20?

My motto right now is: Push onward or Hurry up and wait. I feel like my enite life is in limbo. I'm living at an apartment downstairs from my parents with my whole family waiting for the snow to melt so we can build. I really need to be at a 'me' place and it is taking soooo lonnnnggggg....

Digital Scrapbook Freebie: Sassing Sage

I am sticking to the color themes cuz I really like working with them at this point. Different hues of the same color look so good together. This is my Sassing Sage kit. I roughed up my gold a bit for a different look and did an already made element for you... How do you like the ribbon grouping with the heart buckle? I've seen similar things in a couple of kits and thought I would try making one myself.

Enjoy!

My travel agent, time to go ‘somewhere’!

What is the first thing you buy for yourself?

What is the first thing you buy for someone else?
I would get rid of my parents mortgage.

Do you give any away? If yes, to whom?
Yes, probably my church and my GS Troop.

Today’s Freebie Find: Funky Foral

This is a way cool kit and pretty full for a freebie. It is designed by Leah Riordan and you can get it at the Oscraps.com store. You’ll need to register to get it, but it is well worth the time and effort.

Rule Breaking - Tsk!

DSP Blog Prompt: Write about 5 "rules" you break with some regularity.

1.) Eat breakfast before 9am. Now that I have some medicine to take in the mornings, I really need to eat breakfast. But do I? Not as regularly as I would like. It hits 10am and I see the clock and run to the kitchen for breakfast.
2.) Give my kids my divided attention. This is very hard as my attention is normally very divided ;-)
3.) Put my shoes on in the morning. I’m sorry FlyLady, but stocking feet work for me while I’m around my house. Since I’m a work at home writer, that’s pretty often. But my bed is made, lol.
4.) I never ‘put my stuff away’. This is why it will be good to have the craft/room office instead of using the kitchen table.
5.) I used to break the seatbelt rule, then I had kids who would remind me. Geezz, I think I’m getting old and boring….

Dream Job for a Day

DSP blog prompt: If you had the opportunity for a day, to have a different job (and was totally qualified, trained and capable for that one day), what job would you like to do and why?

I would like to be a stay at home mom. Honestly, I would love to devote all of my energies to my home and my children… even if it was only for one day. This chopping up my “self” to be so many different “selfs” all day takes its toll. For one whole day I would like my children not to have to seek me out in my office to get an answer or some attention.

I think I may have to schedule that in for next week… and I better be careful because I may like it a little too much.

Today's Digital Scrapbook Freebie Find: Pleasin' Purple Addon

I'm very proud of how my addon turned out this month, the funky squares paper was a new technique for me and I loved making it. You'll see more of this type. Just click the image to start your download. Enjoy!
