Cropping Pictures for Scrapbooking

Why Crop Your Pictures?

Cropping a picture means trimming away the parts of the picture that you do not need or do not like. Cropping your picture will bring the subject of the picture into focus and make more room on your layout for more pictures. Cropping will also hide your photo taking mistakes, like your finger on the side of the picture.

Three Simple Cropping Techniques

Cropping Technique #1

Using your straight cutter to trim off the excess all around the subject of your picture. Notice my hand in the picture and how I trim it off. At this point you may choose to round your corners if you have a corner rounder or not.

Using a template, either use a cutter/knife or trace and trim your photo.

Cropping Technique #3

Using a sharp pair of scissors and patience you can silhouette your pictures by following the lines of your main subject very carefully.

You Shouldn't Crop Your Photo When...

  • it's a Polaroid,
  • it's a picture your can't get again if you mess up,
  • or what is in the background has meaning to you.
