Crock Pot Boston Brown Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sifted whole wheat flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 3/4 cup dark molasses
  • 2 cups buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
  2. Add cornmeal, mix well.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and beat well.
  4. Pour batter into a greased and floured mold.
  5. Put 2 cups of water into your crockpot and set mold, centered, inside.
  6. Cover and cook on high for 4 to 5 hours.
  7. Remove from the crock pot and let cool 1 hour before unmolding.
  8. Serve with your favorite fruited cream cheese spread or plain cream cheese.
