Gifts in a jar can be less budget friendly when you go all out and purchase all of the components at full price. Here are our tips that you can use to create wonderful gifts in a jar at a much lower cost.
Re-use and recycle jars. Take a look at the jars you use every week. Glass jars and metal lids are easily cleanable with soap and hot water. So, before you go out and buy mason jars, start collecting the jars you've already bought.
Generic items for the inside of your jars is a more than doable idea - it's smart. While chocolate chips may have a different flavor if you buy them generic - so don't - sugar is sugar. Buy generic where you can.
Some gifts in a jar recipes cost more than others. You can save some money by costing out the ingredients first and then choosing the recipes that cost less.
Use items from around the house to decorate the tops of your jars. For instance, have your kids grown out of any jeans this year? Use the denim. Have some old lace curtains you want to replace anyway? wash them and turn them into pretty jar tops.
Print up your own gift tag and instruction tag on a piece of cardstock instead of using expensive labels. They look better tied on the jar anyway.
You do not need to use expensive specialty ribbon for your gifts in a jar. Paper curling ribbon, string or thin 1/4 ribbons can be substituted.
